THE SYSTEM
The Lee Harris Skating System (LHSS) was founded in 2011 after witnessing first-hand that there was a strong need for proper technique and edges at the highest levels of hockey. Working at the professional level, Lee quickly realized how important it is to focus on proper body awareness and technique starting at a young age. In fact, he finds that many of his high-level skaters need to return to their basic foundation of skating in order to further their development.
Working with professional hockey players in the NHL/AHL has given Lee an understanding of what it takes to skate at the highest level. Players of this size and weight often experience decreased body awareness that is directly related to basic, technical skating issues. Having a strong understanding of body kinetics and body positioning is pivotal. The younger a skater can develop proper body technique and awareness, the more efficient and effective that skater will be as they further their career and grow and mature in size and weight.
With LHSS, regardless of age or skill level, the drills and techniques will work for each skater by building on their existing foundation. If the skater has no foundation, they will be approached as a “blank slate.” For example, when Lee works with professional hockey players, only minor tweaks and adjustments to their skating are usually needed since they have a strong, existing foundation. Continuous improvement of a specific aspect of an athlete’s game is evident in any sport you consider (for example, a professional golfer working with his swing coach). Even at the height of an athlete’s career, skills still need to be refined and adjusted for maximum playing ability.
Each player has their own set of strengths and weaknesses in skating. In LHSS, your weaknesses will be isolated and attacked with drills that will confront the issue head-on. With a strong focus on body control and self-understanding, the weaknesses can be transformed into strengths in a short amount of time.
Mastering the #1 skill in any sport is very rewarding and essential for long-term success. LHSS empowers players to learn and grow through healthy challenge and positive reinforcement techniques. By keeping the skating drills fresh and progressively challenging, encouraging skaters to step outside their skating comfort zone, and working to perfect each skill, each participant can build a good understanding of how to master skating. LHSS will allow each player to add new and exciting aspects to their skating.
Lee looks forward to working alongside you in the exciting and challenging road ahead. Even though some things will challenge you and demand a lot of strength and concentration, your hard work will soon pay off.
